What Can I Pay With At Mushroom Farm? We accept Malawian Kwacha, U.S. Dollars, British Pounds, and Euros as forms of payment. There are no ATM’s at Mushroom Farm or in nearby Livingstonia so be sure to bring enough cash for your stay! The closest ATM’s are located North of us in Karonga or South of us in Mzuzu. There are also banks in both places where you can exchange currency if needed. We do accept visa cards but due to our remote location, our machine can be temperamental! Its a good idea to bring a back up plan just incase :)
What type of food is offered at the restaurant? Our restaurant serves an all-vegetarian menu with various selections of locally sourced produce. We offer a breakfast and lunch menu, and one set meal for dinner every night (that will rotate throughout your stay). Most the time we can accommodate any special dietary requirements such as vegan or gluten restrictions as long as we have notice ahead of time. Please note that all our food is made from scratch and cooked over fire so for that reason we stop taking dinner orders at 4pm to allow the kitchen staff enough time to make everyone’s dish. Please let us know if you are planning to arrive after 4 pm and would like dinner!
Is there somewhere to charge my electronic devices? We offer a charging station where you can charge up an USB powered device you own. The charging station is open for use from 8AM-5PM. AS we are a completely off grid lodge and our energy needs are met solely with solar electricity we cannot charge any devices that require 120-220 volts using a normal wall outlet. However, it is nice to get off the screen and chat with the friends you have around you!
Do you have wi-fi internet? We offer free wi-fi for two hours per day for guests: from 9:00-10:00am and from 4:00-5:00pm. However, due to our remote location, internet is very slow (and sometimes not working at all!). But getting fast Internet is probably not the main reason you are traveling in Africa ;) How do I donate to the Mushroom Farm Community Projects? We are currently in the process of registering the community projects as a NON-PROFIT both in Malawi and in the United States. Once it is registered, we can accept donations (which will be deductible in the US). Stay posted!
